SAINT LOUIS SYMPHONY ORCHESTRA

David Robertson, Music Director and Conductor
Colin Currie, Percussion

STRAVINSKY  Chant du rossignol
TAN DUN  Water Concerto
BRIGHT SHENG   Colors of Crimson
BARTÓK   The Miraculous Mandarin Suite

With their colorful orchestral suites, Bartók and Stravinsky depict the China of fairy tales. A more realistic China—but equally evocative—emerges in music by Bright Sheng and Tan Dun. In Tan Dun's concerto, percussion soloist Colin Currie makes intoxicating sounds, plunging his hands quite literally into water.

Pre-concert talk at 7 PM: David Robertson in conversation with Jeremy Geffen, Director of Artistic Planning, Carnegie Hall.

Tickets are available in the Balcony only.

Ancient Paths, Modern Voices: A Festival Celebrating Chinese Culture is made possible by a leadership gift from Henry R. Kravis in honor of his wife, Marie Josée.
